The Objectives of a Licensee

You may think running a pub is just pouring pints and a little bit of PR but you’d be surprised to learn what the main objectives of a licensee are.

The prevention of crime and disorder:

Quite an obvious one really. Anything illegal, unsettling or that makes people feel in anyway unsafe is to be stopped immediatly. This includes violence towards other people, intimidation, harassment, theft, drugs and any other illegal or unsettling behaviour.

Public safety:

This goes hand in hand with the prevention of crime and disorder but could also include things like hygiene, using safe equipment, overcrowding, providing medical training and equipment, fire safety, slippery floors, manual handling and much more.

The protection of children from harm.

Quite self explanatory and the reason children are asked to leave either by 8pm or during very busy periods (such as a derby day). As we run a ‘Challenge 25’ pub we will ask for ID if you look 25 or under. Without valid photographic ID a person cannot be served. it’s all about the safety!

Prevention of public nuisance:

This includes things like litter, noise, lights, smoke or smells. Quite a straight forward objective. This is why our rear windows are soundproofed, why the speakers face away from the main residential area and why we have a sound monitor on site.

A licensee must do everything they can to keep themselves, their staff and all visitors as safe as possible during their stay. It’s our job and we love it!
